Between the city and the countryside, on the edge of the forest of Schiltigheim, is a place dedicated to science. In its composition, the building references the cultivated strips that shape the landscape.
The project adopts a style of industrial simplicity, all unnecessary detail removed, and promotes a clear layout with workspaces organised on either side of an internal thoroughfare.
Composed of detached volumes clad in timber or corrugated aluminium beneath a large canopy of galvanised steel tubes and aluminium grating, the laboratory’s sculptural form has a presence in its flat and open surroundings. A vast hallway cuts across the building, linking the various departments and giving access to the auditoriums. It is a meeting place for students, the heart of the establishment and the thread that links the different sectors.
